In the book by Danish writer Kim Fupz Aakeson and illustrator Eva Eriksson, translated into Ukrainian by Natalia Ivanychuk, it is about a little boy named Esben, whose Grandfather unexpectedly passed away. Mom said he became an angel, and Dad said he became the earth. But they were both wrong, because one night Esben suddenly saw his Grandfather on his dresser: he was sitting and staring motionlessly into the darkness. This continued for several nights in a row. Grandfather was trying to remember what important thing he had forgotten and why he had become a ghost.
The book highlights one of the most painful topics – how to explain the death of a loved one to a child in a way that does not traumatize their vulnerable psyche. According to translator Natalia Ivanychuk, the authors find the best explanation: grandpa has become a ghost. "It's easier to come to terms with a ghost," she reflects, "you can talk to it and find something lost in life. The book teaches not to be afraid of death and loss and to be able to live with it from a young age. It is suitable for children from four years old. Adults can benefit too. The latter will help explain to children what is difficult to articulate."
